This January recruitment period is typically a time of significant rumour and possible big-money transfers. A number of prominent players are being connected to moves out of their present clubs. This article explores a selection of the major figures who could be on the move this month.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's inability to reach the AFCON, which has left the forward in contention, reports suggest an important transfer is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker possesses a deal with a £65 million release clause active for a short period in early January. Recent developments point to Manchester City have emerged as his services. Former suitors like Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly have moved on to alternative targets, leaving clubs such as Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a last-minute move.

Marc Guéhi

This England defender has continued to excel for Palace this season a previous move to Liverpool falling through. With his deal set to expire in the close season, this represents the club's last opportunity to secure a transfer fee for their skipper. Numerous elite clubs, including City and several European giants including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to be interested. Yet, a winter exit remains unlikely, particularly given the coach's dependence on the player.

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh winger has found first-team minutes limited at Tottenham this campaign. Despite finishing as the club's top scorer last season, Johnson has begun just a small number of Premier League matches. It is understood the London outfit is willing to consider a transfer for the correct valuation, believed to be in the region of £40 million. Bournemouth appear to be leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an inquiry.

Rúben Neves

This Portuguese playmaker could be poised for a return to the English top flight after a spell in Saudi Arabia. Still only 28, while his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a potential opportunity. Clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool are linked with the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there are rumours from Spanish media that he is prepared to accept a reduced salary for a switch to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced German shot-stopper is now as the third option at Barça following the manager Flick. After lost his place and undergone an operation, a winter exit looks increasingly probable. Villa were once linked as a possible suitor, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing curiosity in the keeper.

I. Toney

This prolific England striker has kept scoring frequently in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might enhance his fading chances of being in the national squad. Juventus are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a lengthy contract but face a battle to keep one of the continent's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

This much-admired Netherlands midfielder has drawn comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. After starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team. The 19-year-old is heavily expected to complete a big-money move in January. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
