The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in employing video review systems.
Replay systems are set to arrive at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Players are granted the ability to challenge particular decisions from the official, following the system already in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
This innovation is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This development follows just a season following the AELTC rolled out ELC, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the official to re-examine specific decisions, including:
- Whether a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a shot touched an rival's racket or person on the way past.
- Potential interference end of a rally.
Notably, there is no limit on the amount of challenges a competitor can request.
Case in Point
An illustrative example took place in a recent tournament recently, where a top player used the video challenge against Jack Draper.
The British player conceded it was a tough situation for the official, but thought his opponent had "played the rules quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and ruled the player was responsible for interference, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not exclusive to major tournaments. It has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have the system in place at all of its events.
Additional Innovations
A further innovation at The Championships this year will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This addresses situations where the crowd have sometimes been uncertain if a shot was in or out.
Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
